Since 2022, we have been providing pet food, supplies, and access to veterinary services to help our recipients care for their beloved companions. Pets significantly enhance the physical and emotional well-being of older adults, particularly those who live alone or are socially isolated. For many of our recipients, their pets are their closest companions, offering essential support daily and during times of illness and recovery. By providing pet food and services, we aim to alleviate the need for recipients to share their meals with their pets and reduce the stress and anxiety over how to physically and financially care for them.
Over the past year, we have served 99 clients and 172 pets, delivering over 7,830 pounds of food. Additionally, we have partnered with two veterinary clinics to offer mobile vet care. To date, nine recipients have used these veterinary services, with many more on a waitlist. As our program grows, we aim to serve more pets, expand access to wellness veterinary care (costing approximately $80-$250), and have funds available to meet emergency needs, such as boarding ($584/week) to keep a recipient's pet safe while they are in the hospital or rehab. Every dollar can make a significant impact on the lives of our recipients and their pets!
